English Cavalry.17th light Dragoons

According to the supplement of Black powder Rebellion, English Cavalry was inferior to the American one.

Only two cavalry regular units served in America, both of light Dragoons. Light Dragoons fought as mounted cavalry using sabre-wielding charges and carbine or pistol fire either mounted o dismounted.

Both wore in red with light cavalry helmets and with buttons in white metal, small clothes in white.

16th light Dragoons: Dark blue facings. Trumpeters the same.

17th light Dragoons: White facings. On their helmets they show white skull and crossbones. Trumpeters wore in reverse colors.

For my first English cavalry units I have decided to build the 17th light Dragoons unit.

Obviously I had used the Italery reference 6044 British Light Cavalry. They are the only reference in 1/72 for the AWI cavalry. They try to represent just this unit. The uniforms seems to be correct but as said in the Plastic soldier review, three  figures wear gorgets, in theory only for officials, and that the sabre is a little short. I think these are not big problems. In my opinion, and it´s only my opinion the fantastic page usually magnifies the falls of the Italery figures, being more tolerant with other brands. I like a lot the Italery sculpting stile of the Italery figures. But it´s true that the expression of their faces, as in this reference, doesn´t seem to be of a man in the middle of a battle; they seems ephebes smiling; for me this problem is bigger. Another problem is that Italery figures usually, and more in the latest set, are taller than their equivalents in other brands, ant this problem is even bigger.I n this case they can fit with the references that I ´m using for the infantry.

I have used  them practically straight from the box with no transformations (only the flag). I´ll try to make more cavalry units, and perhaps this unit dismounted, although it seems very difficult…

Thank you very much for watching¡

  1. Antonio has fitted me, it's very realistic, but what I liked the most is the color of autumn in the trees. Congratulations
